RESIDENCY GUIDELINES APPLICATION FORM


Grin City Collective seeks talented college artists and writers for its 2012 Emerging Artist Residency.

Session I: June 17-July 14
Session II: July 22-August 18


Applications due: March 23, 2012

Eligibility: Undergraduate juniors and seniors at time of application with a strong background in writing, visual or performance art. Applicants from Iowa colleges and universities are given special consideration. Interested students can apply for either session as meets their schedule. You do not need to be an art major to apply.

Selected resident artists/writers/performers receive:

> Free housing and food
> A private area in a large studio space. Access to kiln, pottery wheel and woodshop can be arranged.
> Final gallery show at the Grinnell Arts Center on July 12-August 3 (Session I) and August 16-September 7 (Session II)
> $100 Stipend
> Four week intensive individual and collaborative art practice


As part of its new commitment to social sustainability, Grin City also maintains a 1,700 square-foot garden tended by current artists. Emerging artists will spend one morning and one afternoon each week working in the garden, whose produce goes to their own dinner table as well as a free community meal held in town.

Send the following items:

- Completed Application Form: here

- A statement of purpose describing what you hope to individually accomplish during the residency and how you would approach group collaboration. How would the experience benefit your work?

- Resume (with complete contact information).

- Letter of recommendation from a college-level instructor.

- Letter should be sent directly from the reference to molly@grinnellarts.org

- Representative examples of work in digital form:

Visual artists:
5-10 images of work, .jpg, 72 dpi, with a maximum size of 1000 pixels on either side. Links to web-based works and videos are also allowed. Include corresponding image list with title, date, media and dimensions.

Performance Artists:
A video sample of performance(s). Videos should not exceed 10 minutes and must be Quicktime compatible. Include corresponding performance list with title, date, and media. Youtube or Vimeo links are also allowed.

Writers:
Poetry: A selection of poems totaling 10pp or less.
and/or
Prose: 2 writing samples totaling 30pp or less.

- A $15 application fee, payable by check or paypal. Please send cash or check made out to "GAAC" to PO Box 657, Grinnell, IA, 50112. Include on check your full name and the residency session for which you are applying.

Emails cannot exceed 10MB or our server will reject them. If your application is more than 10MB, please divide your work sample into multiple emails.

Notes: Applicants may submit examples in more than one area; however, they should make certain their submission is complete within each area selected (they do not need to pay two application fees).

The selection committee will focus on individual artistic excellence and what the artist/performer/writer will bring to the group experience.

Applications must be complete and emailed no later than 5pm Friday, March 23, 2012.
